Lily & Friends

My paintings are built of sketch-painting, melding drawing and painting as one. Fluid and at times frenetic mark-making create an interplay of flat shapes and sculptural, biomorphic forms that challenge spatial dimensions.

Lily & Friends is a taxonomy study and meditation on nature and parasitic plants. It is a funerary process and collaboration with nature. Memories are upcycled to parasitic plants for physical and psychological regeneration. Painting becomes an act of sharing and revealing before burying and fossilizing. All the works shown here are of an amazon water lily named Victoria Amazonica, or, as I have come to know her, Lily.

Other parasitic plants will join Lily, and in true parasitic party fashion, Lily will become Lily & Friends, a cacophony of planetary song where the inner lives of plants so stunningly reveal the eloquence and power of nature, a place where the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly work together to reveal the sublime-space of the Wild.
